Marlin fishing off Cairns We're 5 hours off the Cairns coast, on the Reel Screamer - 17 metres of pure game fishing boat. This is bait for marlin - 18-0 hook, now we'll go out back and try to nail a big marlin! Now, into the hot seat for a practice run.. The line is heavy duty - 130 pound with plenty of drag for the fight… Fighting drag is 45 lb And before long, we're on… This has to be the ultimate battle of man against fish… When the marlin's diving deep.. you have to whack the reel into low gear to hold its weight… If we can get this baby up to the surface, I'll have to throw it into high gear and let out a bucketload of line when she goes for a run. This is what its like playing in the forwards, hard yakka up against big guys, evertime in close, off she goes again. Fifty of the longest minutes of my life … And she's finally here.. or what's left of her after the sharks have pounced. We wanted big marlin action - I got the hardest fight I've ever had. Sharks got to it before we got it on board. That's what Marlin Fishing all about. Battle nature - food chain, mackerel and sharks knocked over marlin. That's how she goes.
