Zoe flies in a Tiger Moth

So what's made of cotton and timber and can fly? Apparently, and hopefully, this tiger moth…

First I have to get into the swing of things, so it's out of the civvies…

Biggles to base…!!!

....and into my aviator attire…

Before I hop into the open cockpit… there's a few more things I need to know about this 1930's aero classic…

"So Grant, is this really cotton and timber?"

"Yes… cotton fabric over timber frame… but the fuselage has a metal frame over it…"

"But we're not doing aerobatics today, are we?"

"Yes. Loops, rolls, spins, stall turns…!!!"

And I thought it was going to be a cosy joyflight, soaking up the Southern Coastline…

As I take my seat, the adrenalin starts to pump…

I take a deep breath, and it's chocks away… …And we're off!

I shouldn't have been too worried… the old Tiger Moth takes to the air like… well, a moth…

This smoke I do not like, but I'm OK when I find out it's all for show… I start to relax until…

Spin… loop… roll… half cuban… and my personal favourite… the stall turn.

I could have lost my brekky, but even the corn flakes couldn't work out which way was up!

Then… thankfully back to earth… and it's not often I'm lost for words… I don't know what to say… I want to go again… can we go again…?

Our Tiger moth adventure took off from Torquay, just over an hour's drive south of Melbourne.

The brave boys at Tiger Moth World will take you for the longest fifteen minutes of your life, loop de looping above the southern ocean.

It'll cost 110 dollars for a joy flight, and fifty dollars extra for aerobatics!
