Michael Diamond

My fishing mate today is renowned for hitting his target, whether it's winning gold at the Olympics, or fishing on his new boat, Pump Action..

It's our very own top gun, Michael Diamond…

We're a long way from Goulburn, where Michael first took pot shots at empty cans strung from branches. He was just six.

When he was eight, his Dad took him to the local gun club, just to see how the young fella'd go.

'The target appeared. I chased it, put the bead on it, pulled the trigger and absolutely smoked this target… I don't know who was more surprised, Dad or myself..'

When he's not competing, Michael loves to get out here and target some big fish.

But we're not having much luck today. The kingfish are keeping their distance.

Michael first shot to fame, after his win at the 96 Atlanta Olympics.

'I Went into it happy-go-lucky, whatever happens happens..and strike me dead I won a gold medal..'

Just before the Sydney Games, tragedy struck when his father died.

But Michael reckons he was still there at that final, guiding him to his second gold medal.

'I basically had my father's words ringing in my ears, y'know those first three or four vital steps….just what I did in the final..'

'Well we didn't do any good on my home turf, this is your home turf… Show me how it's done..'

Here's one bloke who's at home on the range. He makes it look like…well…shooting fish in a barrel.

Now it's my turn to take aim.

'..the target's a magnet, the barrel's the steel. So the barrel's got to go straight to it, pull the trigger..'

'See the bead. That's your line of sight….guaranteed to break it.'

'PULL…yeah matey he he!…got that sucker.'
