Wakeboarding School Have you ever heard the term Mute Stiffy 3, chicken salad or method de fakey and wondered what the hell they mean? Well this guy behind me has set up Australia's first mobile wakeboarding school.. so you'll have every chance to learn. At first, it looks pretty straightforward.. you're towed behind a boat on a board..but be warned - there's a whole new world out there! Thankfully our teacher Howie has been wakeboarding for seven years… He's won two pro-tours and state titles…so he knows the lingo - and the legwork. Now my turn. First, Howie gives me a run-through… which is a bit like a tug of war on the grass… "Now pretend I'm the boat, lean back, arms in….Zoe - wooh!" It's also a good idea to practice getting into the bindings on solid ground. Time to hit the water.. though I don't think I'll be doing any Scarecrow Chicken Salad Stiffys just yet !! Here goes! I hate to tell you - this is harder than it looks.. Howie's been running this school for two and a half years - so luckily he's VERY patient. Finally - we have lift-off… Woohoo! If you've got the stamina to try wakeboarding.. Howie's school is based at Port Hacking in New South Wales. Howie also runs mobile clinics and demos right along the east coast of Australia. You'll pay sixty
dollars for a full hour out on the water, which includes all
your gear and the tuition and pep talks beforehand. |
