Low Emission Engines
There are 2 things likely to
put a dampener on a great day on the water
one is the weather
the other, engine trouble
that is, until NOW.
We're being powered by a new
Yamaha High Pressure, Direct Injection engine
or HPDI for
short.
Believe it or not, this is
a two-stroke engine
but acts more like a four-stroke.
In fact, it has 30 percent
better fuel consumption than your conventional 2-stroke.
With tough new environmental
guidelines being introduced around the world, these new motors,
which burn less fuel and produce less smoke, are the way of the
future
For boating fanatics like John
Palermo.. the HPDI is a perfect replacement for his old 2-stroke.
Some of the earlier motors
never burnt all of the fuel and oil
went into the water
does nothing for the environment
but these new motors
these engines burn all the fuel
nothing into the water
And have you noticed something
else missing? These engines are so quiet compared to the traditional
2 stroke, that you can hold a conversation without yelling
A happy byproduct of the cleaner
fuel burn is virtually no smoke - great for asthmatics like me!
Be warned - by 2006 - all outboards
will have to meet tough guidelines for exhaust and emission levels.
So it might be wise to get in early with this clean machine.
To sum up - greater fuel efficiency
equals lower running costs and cleaner waterways
and that's
something that we all care about.
The High Pressure Direct Injection
is available in 150, 175 and 200 horsepower models.
The engines cost from $17,800
and are available from all Yamaha dealers.
