Stradbroke Sandboarding
Now once upon a time, you might
have soared down this sand dune on a piece of old cardboard,
or an esky lid, but these days, things are more sophisticated.
We're on custom-made sandboards.
You can't sandboard just anywhere
it's not always good for the dunes. Blair's been running these
trips for the past three years and has a permit to use this particular
spot on North Stradbroke Island.
He's certainly passionate about
it
. Though he tends to go a bit overboard sometimes
.
Before you set off, just wax
the underside of the board for a better slide. Then, you can
go your own way - standing, sitting, tandem or flat out like
Superman. 'Woohoo!'
And just because you're on
sand, doesn't mean the spills don't hurt. Just ask young Matt
'..when
you land on your head it hurts
'
Okay pardners, high noon on
the dune.
'Keep your head up, knees bent
.dancin'
hips movin'..'
I've eaten more than my fair
share of North Straddie sand, so I think I'll approach it from
a different angle.
Finally! I get down the dune
with my dignity intact. If you can't beat 'em - join 'em!
