Michele Timms

Michele Timms is one of the best female basketballers in the world. She's a terrier on the court… And… on the water.

"That's my problem with fishing. So damn impatient."

Michele has taken up fishing in the last few years… and today we're trying our luck out in the middle of Port Phillip Bay.

As a bit of a newcomer, she's only ever caught flathead….until now.

Well, Timmsy is pretty quick to get a few points on the board… Although we seem to have hit the toddler's playground. And she's balked at kissing her catch!

"Been while since I kissed anything. Fish looking good!"

As captain of the Opals, Michele certainly knows how to psyche up her team mates…." Cmon Andrew gotta start lifting your game!"

And I finally score, though it's no three pointer!

There's no doubt Timmsy has plenty of determination.. and she got it the hard way - growing up with six brothers!

"In hindsight it really helped me, they'd chuck me around the yard like a paper doll… my parent's would say 'don't go out there if you can't handle it.'"

Michele's certainly learnt how to handle her basketball career… winning two Olympic medals with the Opals, including a silver as Captain at the Sydney Games.

On the international circuit, Michele was the first Aussie, male or female, to play overseas.. and she's now in her fifth season in the big league of American basketball.

Finally, we see some real action in the last quarter out here on the Bay.

Michele ends up with her old foe, the flathead. While I land a little gummy shark.

I reckon all this excitement has given Timmsy a taste of life beyond the baskets.

"My next big challenge is to get back on court for the WNBA season. Last season, ready to retire, I love fishing, get dinghy and off I go…."
