Ken Sutcliffe
A glorious
morning on Sydney harbour
and I'm chasing kingfish with
TV sports guru Ken Sutcliffe.
Ken's been
living in Sydney for 22 years, but he's never even wet a line
in the harbour.
So Craig McGill
from Fishabout Tours is taking us to where the kingies usually
hang out.
We set the
rods, and wait for a strike.
Ken : 'This
is fishing on automatic pilot
the boat does the work until
you get a hookup, and then you go to it..'
So
Ken
reckons he's on easy street! Well mate, we'll see what happens
if a big kingy gets on the end of your line
Growing up
in Mudgee, fishing was something Ken only did occasionally
'There was
the Cudgigong River
..some type of fish/... and a lotta
leeches
'
No leeches
here! There's a couple of small tailor, though
ET: 'There
you go folks. Double trouble
.the harbour is alive..'
Ken: 'Not quite
big enough
.Follow me, I'll put you onto some good ones
(laughs)'
Ken kicked
off his career in radio, before breaking into TV in Orange.
He joined Channel
9 in 1979 and, just a few years later, interviewed a young Cronulla
kid who was about to crack the rugby league bigtime
.
Ken's rod is
suddenly straining. Looks like the kingfish have arrived !
Kingies will
battle all the way to the boat
I think Ken's got his work
cut out for him.
Finally, after
about 10 minutes
Ken : 'Whooohooo!
.that
was a real thrill.'
Fishabout Tours
