Thredbo Adventures
One of the
most spectacular ways to see the Snowies in summer is to drive
to Thredbo.
The lush countryside
and alpine streams take on a whole new look without their white
blanket.
If you think
ski resorts like Thredbo are only for winter months, I'm about
to prove that when the snow melts, the action hots up !
In summer,
action junkies here replace their skis with spokes and rubber
So Sam from
Raw NRG is teaching me how to master a mountain bike.
The main tricks
of the trade - keep your pedals level, stand up off the seat
and keep your weight to the back so your rear tyres don't slip.
And most importantly - remember how to stop!
Well I've taken
skis on a ski lift before, but a mountain bike? This could be
tricky.
Well that's
the easy part out of the way. Now the hard part, getting down
on this bike !
Woohoo !!!
Welcome to the Cannonball Run
a daredevil 5 kilometre trail
down the mountain.
It's not all
fast and furious, and with slopes like this you can see why!
Professional
racers can do this track in about 6 minutes
but I think
I'll be taking a little longer!
Well I think
I've been the human medicine ball rather than human cannonball,
so here at the halfway mark I'm ready to pick up a little more
speed.
When you're
not breaking the sound barrier
you can just sit back and
enjoy the scenery.
Time to continue
the downhill adventures, and this time it's just me, my backside
and a bobsled.
The Thredbo
bobsled is a 700 m luge track that snakes down the mountain..
and it gets faster as you go along. So please, remember to use
your brakes!
I wonder if
the Australian luge team is looking for new athletes ? I'm loving
this sport !
Raw NRG will
guide you on a mountain bike trek in the Snowies. The cannonball
initiation run will cost $165 per person, including your bike,
safety gear and instruction, and an all day lift ticket.
To bobsled
down the mountain, head for Thredbo Village. The bobsled is $4.50
a ride.
