Pat Cash
Sanctuary Cove
is more than 400 hectares of pure, unadulterated luxury
and most of it is based around these sparkling waters.
But one of the
cove's most famous locals doesn't have time to even wet his feet
in those magnificent waterway because he spends most of his time
on court
.. the original Wimbledon Pat, Pat Cash.
Can you believe
it's fourteen years since Pat clambered into the Wimbledon crowd
after beating Ivan Lendl in that final?
When Pat goes
to Wimbledon now, it's to call all the action for the BBC.
He still gets
the occasional sentimental twinge, but these days he gets physical
ones as well
.
Still wearing
his trademark bandana, you'll find Pat coaching the new young
lions of tennis.
Pat's teamed
up with sports scientist Dr Gavin Hopper to form the Cash Hopper
International Tennis Academy at nearby Hope Island.
The academy
is expanding, and the next stage is happening at Sanctuary Cove.
There'll be hard courts, clay courts, cushion courts.
Pat's even working
with a private school to create a unique curriculum
where
there'll be more chalk on-court than in-class.
'They can come
to school late
.they might as well be out playing tennis.
So we've made our own school.'
Not as cushy
as it sounds. If these guys want to emulate Pat, they'll have
to put in at least 5-6 hours a day. And they'll also have to
develop a pretty handy power game..
OK - lets see
if Pat can teach this weekend whacker a thing or two.
Sanctuary Cove
is open to the public daily.
Or to stay overnight,
try the Hyatt Regency Escape packages, starting at $122.50 per
person per night, which includes a full buffet breakfast.
