It was a beautiful morning on the Hawkesbury River . ET had just launched the 530 Breeze - a beaut little Hanes Hunter - and he was fishing with his brother Mick and his young son Cody.
Cody had been excited about this all week, and looking forward to the big adventure. They headed up to Flint & Steel, hopefully there would be a little bit of a run and then they would be into the fish. |
They used an awesome little device, the beautiful Lowrance 3/37C. The Hawkesbury is a monster system, and they put in Flint & Steel which is a known reef just out near the mouth. You could see on the Lowrance, Flint & Steel Point and all the reefy structure round the edge. And that was their spot for the day. |
Mick had an Evinrude 115 on the back - which meant plenty of grunt, but they won't use much fuel and it is low on emissions. |
They brought out the heavyweight gear - nice Shimano T-curve rods - in the hope of a big Jewfish to knock Cody's socks off.
ET also picked up some bait jigs, 6 pound line and size two ball sinkers from Big W, to catch the live bait. |
But Cody was already using it to catch something better than live bait! |
ET had just put the bait jig down to see if they could get some live bait, and Cody was on to a fish.
They nearly had him there - and WOW! That was a BIG leatherjacket. |
They are called leatherjackets because there skin feels like leather and there are lots of different types of leatherjackets...and this one was a very good eating fish.
Leatherjackets have no scales and are great eating. |
And moments later.it was another leatherjacket.
This one was a little bit small, so ET through him back to let him grow bigger..and Cody sent him off with a big wave. |
Boy oh boy, the fish were on the bite for Cody..he had another Mr Leatherjacket!
More than 20 species of leatherjacket are found in NSW waters. |
Cody ended the day with a whimper, not a bang!
He caught a tiny little fish and it was time to cut their losses and head home. |
They headed off with an assortment of gear that morning - they had the big gear hoping to catch Cody a nice Mullaway - but unfortunately, no big fish. Lots of little leatherjackets, but they were good fun!
Cody had a great day and it didn't matter what size fish Cody caught, he was always going to have a beauty! |
