BRP has signed an agreement with Tohatsu Corporation to supply a range of Evinrude branded outboard engines from 3.5 to 15 HP. The new engines will be available at BRP dealerships in early 2012, adding to BRP's existing line-up of Evinrude E-TEC outboard engines of 25 to 300 HP.
"We believe Tohatsu Corporation, who builds quality and market-proven engines, to be the right supplier to complete the Evinrude line-up," said José Boisjoli, president and CEO. "BRP's focus remains on the development and manufacturing of high-value and higher horsepower engines, using the E-TEC technology that we will continue to enhance with industry-leading features and benefits over the years to come."
The Model Year 2012 Can-Am range will include several new models incorporating the new G2 platform including the 'Outlander 1000 XT' & 'Renegade 1000 X xc' (800cc variants will also be available upon release). The power-plant for these latest models will be the new 82-hp Rotax 1000, eclipsing the existing industry benchmark set by the potent 71-hp Rotax 800R. Despite the unprecedented performance levels, the Rotax engines provide a progressive throttle ensuring a smooth and controllable power delivery from low to high speeds, and appropriate for a wide array of riders and situations.
Using principles of design BRP call 'Geometric Contact Control', engineers placed a high emphasis on the handling characteristics with the new G2 platform. The results are outstanding ride quality, comfort, traction, cornering, and directional control. G2 models will also come with a progressive tri-mode dynamic power-steering (DPS), the only system on the market that enables riders to select the appropriate steering assist mode to suit their riding conditions. Being a progressive power-steering system, each DPS mode automatically applies greater assist at low speeds for easy turning, and less assist at higher speeds for greater feel. Overall the G2 Outlander and Renegade will provide the hardcore performance the Can-Am brand is known for yet notably enhance overall ride comfort.
