Series 13 :: Episode 14

Macquarie and Marlin – from a 41 cm Whiting in Lake Macquarie to a Marlin over 90 kg off Port Stephens, the NSW central coast provides boatloads of action this week. And to take the last show of this series out with a real bang, we pack in New Zealand Snapper and Ningaloo GT action as well! It’s a fishing bonanza, backed up by some solid science and great hope for the future in an interview with Fisheries Research and Development boss Dr Patrick Hone. There are plenty of practical boating tips, Bart Beek sears Scallops in Broome, Guesty looks fetching in leathers, and for the end of the series even Toby gets wet!

Series 13 :: Episode 13

The west is the focus for our adventures this week and it’s definitely wild! Guesty goes fishing in the waters of Western Australia’s Ningaloo Reef with BCF competition winner Stuart and a mate, staying in the wild bush luxury of the Sal Salis safari camp right on the dunes of Cape Range National Park. They get into GTs, Cobia, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi and Tuna by the ton – a first on every front for Stuart and his mate Paul, who are trout fishermen from Victoria! Meanwhile ET’s at sea with Dhufish researchers from WA Fisheries and he also looks in on the Club Marine Mandurah Boat Show. Bart Beek’s also in WA, cooking on the beautiful Broome seafront, and Toby’s doing his own form of sand groping.

Series 13 :: Episode 12

ET hits the surf, launching straight off the beach and motoring out past surfers on a great longboard waves on his way to some great Snapper reefs, where he and Spearfishing Downunder magazine editor John Featherstone get into some nice reds – and get up close to whales and dolphins! Guesty hits the bush with a couple of mates, hunting Bass from kayaks and the banks of a beautiful northern river in NSW. Toby shows what to do when you hit trouble, with some handy tips and hints on winch recovery. We also show how rock fishing is becoming much safer, how to launch your boat efficiently and courteously for other ramp users, and Bart Beek shows how to cook prawns with a zing.

Series 13 :: Episode 11

Guesty’s back on the Coral Sea, again in the company of Steve Doyle and Ben McConnell from BCF and legendary French lure maker Patrick Sébile. Nomad Sportfishing Adventures boss Damon Olsen and guide Glanville Heydenrych get them among some feisty Long Tail Tuna and a whole rainbow of brightly coloured reef fish. They also go for a very different kind of reef fishing – popping for big pelagics off the reef structure itself – and Guesty is all but knocked over by the GT catch of a lifetime. Our coral adventurer also goes tagging Spanish Mackerel in tropical waters while Toby takes us hill climbing in rugged country. And Bart Beek’s also into tuna in beautiful Broome.

Series 13 :: Episode 10

The ocean and islands off Coffs Harbour are the scene for some great pelagic action. ET and Guesty help a young local catch his first ever Spanish Mackerel – and it’s a beauty. They move on to Kingfish which come up so fast and thick that there are often two on deck at a time. Next they hit the reef with lures for a hugely satisfying feed of Pearl Perch. And they finish off a great trip with some athletic Mahi Mahi angling around the fish attracting buoy. ET gets into more Pearlie and Kingy excitement a bit further north off the Tweed. Toby’s a bit further north still, exploring Cooloola and Rainbow Beach. And Bart’s still way out west cooking up a storm in Broome.

Series 13 :: Episode 9

ET and Guesty go green. They’re surrounded by more grass and trees than water when they travel out to the Guy Fawkes River on the New England Tableland in search of Rainbow Trout and Murray Cod. And they find them in strength! The boys lure a whole spectrum of rainbows in some surprisingly narrow streams, then go to spinnerbaits for a huge catch of Australia’s freshwater fighting champion, the mighty Murray Cod. They also fish fresh water in the Hawkesbury, hunting for Estuary Perch before moving downstream for a feast of Flathead. Toby tackles the Simpson Desert at night and we see a bit more of what makes Broome such a popular destination.

Series 13 :: Episode 8

The crew fly north east on a Mackerel odyssey way out in the Coral Sea – and get much more than they bargained for! Guesty and some mates from BCF, fishing with Nomad Sportfishing Adventures, get into double hook ups galore as they chase Spanish Mackerel along the edges of the reef. And when they go surface popping after Giant Trevally, Guesty gets on to the GT of a lifetime: 55 kilos, 120 pounds, it’s a personal best with bells on! Back down south, ET goes fishing with Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fishing and Forestry Dr Mike Kelly. And way out in the not-so-dead heart of Australia Toby crosses Eyre Creek in the Simpson Desert.

Series 13 :: Episode 7

The Land of the Long White Cloud is more like the Land of the Big Red Fish for ET and Guesty. They jet across to New Zealand to chase Snapper in Hauraki Gulf close to Auckland, and they find that the Kiwi reds are built more like All Blacks! Up to eight kilos and definitely fighting above their weight, the Snapper around Great Barrier Island provide great sport and lots of it. The boys then up the ante and go kayak fishing for more big reds, finishing their trip with a Kiwi Kingfish. Back in Australia Guesty discovers the research work putting us ahead of the world in Tropical Rock Lobster aquaculture and Toby crosses Eyre Creek in the heart of the Simpson Desert.

Series 13 :: Episode 6

It’s billfish action big time as ET and Guesty fly in to Port Vila for the Grand Hotel and Casino Vanuatu Marlin Classic. Our boys have been invited to join Team Larva Lure for the tournament and they’re pumped for action. In three days of competitive big game fishing on Vanuatu’s legendary Marlin Highway the team lands four different species of billfish – and they get in some sight seeing as well. Toby Bosschieter sees some very different sights over 3,000 kilometres away in the heart of the Simpson Desert. And in Far North Queensland we get the scientific lowdown on the marine effects of Cyclone Yasi almost a year after its devastating impact.

Series 13 :: Episode 5

ET and Guesty go way off shore – all the way to Norfolk Island – hunting for Snapper and come up with a mass of monster Bar Cod as well. But they can’t get away without encountering some gentlemen in grey suits. There’s more shark action in Far North Queensland on an important tagging program, while 4WD guru Toby Bosschieter gets about as far away from a shark attack as you can get in the middle of the Simpson Desert and Guesty goes after squid for sports fishing at the other end of the scale!

Escape with ET heads overseas this week to Vanuatu with the winner of the Escape with ET & BCF “money can’t buy” competition. Grant Barringer was the lucky winner of this trip and he brought his father along to fish the magnificent waters of Vanuatu.

In this weeks show Guesty takes a seaplane 100 nautical miles to sea and does battle with some massive GT’s both off the land and in the boat.

Series 13 :: Episode 1

We’re back for 2011. ET and Guesty hit the beach chasing whiting, Guesty teams up with Jason from BCF on the estuary. The boys pump some nippers and then get into some monster whiting from the boat. Guesty’s young bloke Flynn hooks into some whoppers.

Series 12 :: Episode 12

It’s an all-out mack attack this week, as ET and Guesty fish the plentiful waters off Tweed Heads in northern NSW. The spanish and spotty mackerel are crash-tackling the lures, and the boys have a bait’s eye view, thanks to the amazing Towcam underwater camera system. The kingfish also go on the bite, with double hookups and ET battling a monster kingie. But can he bring it all the way to the boat?

Series 12 :: Episode 11

It’s a real outback adventure this week, as ET and Michael Guest chopper over the marshlands, paddle down rapids and roam the inland rivers, all in pursuit of the mighty Murray cod. The boys journey to the town of Warren in western NSW, to battle cod in the Macquarie River. Then Guesty’s off to the rivers of New England, to continue the chase for this iconic Aussie fish.

Series 12 :: Episode 10

The ET team are fishing Michael Guest’s home patch this week – Lake Macquarie in the Hunter region of NSW. It’s Australia’s largest coastal saltwater lake and home to some sensational estuary species. The boys are soon landing whopper whiting and plenty of nice flathead. ET and Guesty even hook into schools of tailor and kingfish.

Series 12 :: Episode 9

ET and Guesty are on a north Queensland fishing odyssey this week. First, they’re heading way inland to Mt Isa, to bail up big barramundi in Lake Moondarra at the Isa’s annual fishing classic. Then it’s out onto the big blue, chasing reef fish and black marlin offshore from Cooktown. The hunt is made more exciting when ET deploys his towcam, so the fishos have a bait’s eye view of the big predators as they attack the lures!

Series 12 :: Episode 8

The Coral Sea is rife with reef fish and this week, ET and Guesty tap into all sorts of exotic species in the pristine waters of Elusive Reef, 200 nautical miles off the coast of Queensland. Most of these reefies have never seen a lure in their lives, so the boys are throwing poppers, stick baits, soft plastics and metal lures – and hauling in some colourful catches from the coral.

This week, it’s chaos on the Coral Sea, as ET and Guesty hunt one of the ocean’s prize catches, the Giant Trevally. The boys venture 200 nautical miles off the coast of Queensland, to join the crew from Nomad Sportfishing Adventures for some sizzling GT action.

It’s a place where ancient culture meets high-speed adventure. Where you can experience hot air spouts and rainbow trout. Yes, we’re escaping to New Zealand this week. ET and Michael Guest head to the Land of the Long White Cloud to enjoy all the mayhem on opening day of trout season.

The hunt is on for topline predators in NSW this week, as ET and Michael Guest journey from the mountains to the sea. They launch a freshwater assault on Murray Cod on Copeton Dam, then head offshore from Coffs Harbour to target snapper and kingies.

Series 12 :: Episode 4

We escape to the wild west this week, when ET and Michael Guest go in search of the elusive bonefish off Exmouth in Western Australia. Exmouth Gulf and Ningaloo Reef offer up all sorts of sportfish, from big golden trevally to spangled emperor. But the greatest challenge will be landing a bonefish on the fly rod!

Series 12 :: Episode 3

ET and Guesty are competing against one thousand other fishos this week in the thrilling Club Marine Trailerboat Tournament at Port Stephens. The boys head offshore to tap into deepwater dwellers like kingfish, snapper and morwong. They also hit the rocky ledges to lure drummer and bream out of hiding. But can they land the biggest catch of the species to take out a trophy in this big event?

Series 12 :: Episode 2

This week, it’s tournament time in the Northern Territory, and ET’s competing in his favourite comp – the Barra Classic. The elite anglers are chasing big barramundi on the Daly River, and ET’s team, the Club Marine Scurvy Dogs, are hoping to battle their way into the top ten of the Classic. It’s been a late wet season and the Daly River is still running high, so it turns out to be a tricky tournament. ET and his mates Chris Errity and Wayne Baldwin manage to land a few decent barra, but can they work their way up the leader board? ET also fishes with a couple of kids, who prove they’re in a class of their own when it comes to catching barra. Sam and Montana both tussle with massive barramundi, in the hope of scooping the pool in the Junior Classic. ET also competes in the Barra Nationals, where a team of locals employs some clever tactics to land a swag of barra. We also meet the scientists who’ve uncovered a valuable secret – knowing which years the barramundi will be on the boil!

Series 12 :: Episode 1

This week, the adrenalin is pumping offshore as ET and Michael Guest chase Kiama’s crazy deepsea critters. The boys are fossicking for gemfish way out wide on the edge of the Continental Shelf, but Michael also hooks a Mako shark that puts on a spectacular mid-air show. ET and Guesty brave the rough and tumble of wash fishing off Jervis Bay, to tap into the bream and drummer fish. They top off their NSW south coast adventure by hooking up with the five year old flathead king of St George’s Basin. Young Taj shows ET a thing or two about landing estuary fish on metal blades.
